Welcome to the Northern Spirit Local 6 Professional Development information page!
The passion teachers have for learning inspires our students to greater heights! This passion is fed by pursuit of our interests and continual development of our professional knowledge and skills. Your ATA local is honoured to assist you on this journey!
Northern Spirit ATA Local 6 is pleased to help fund and partner with PWPSD to offer a mentorship program for new teachers. Teachers within their first two years of teaching qualify, and are partnered with experienced teachers around the district. Mentors and proteges attend workshops based on the ATA Mentorship program and enjoy other release days for collaboration purposes. For more information, inquire with your principal.
Each school is allocated money from the local so teachers can attend PD of their choice. Please talk to your PD school rep to see what funds are available to you this year and then apply for the grant!

The ATA Professional Practice Self-Reflection Tool allows teachers to explore the Alberta Education Professional Practice Standards to self-determine areas of strength and potential growth. This can also assist teachers and school leaders in identifying goals for their annual professional growth plans. To explore this newly redesigned self-assessment tool, visit https://abselfreflectiontool.com. For more information on professional growth planning including newly designed growth plan templates, visit this ATA web page.
The ATA is completely FREE to use and it's more than just books - there are classroom resources and STEM kits you can use with students too.
They will ship to you with return envelopes so you don't pay anything.
